How the new Metrolog is optimising part measurement, by Mariana Ramos

At S4METRO, we daily measure a wide variety of parts for sectors such as the automotive, aerospace, and metalworking industries. The foundation of this work is the universal Coord3 CMM, renowned for its precision and robustness in industrial environments. With the update to Metrolog V25, this measurement capability gained equally advanced software, and the improvements in our inspection process became even more evident.

"The Coord3 always gives us the accuracy we need. What Metrolog V25 brought was the speed and flexibility to make better use of that precision day-to-day." — Mariana Ramos

Part diversity, a single workflow

Each sector we work with brings its own challenges regarding tolerance, geometry, and deadlines. The Coord3 CMM provides us with the accuracy and versatility required to measure everything from small, complex components to large parts with high dimensional demands. The daily challenge is maintaining an efficient workflow in the face of such diversity, especially when a part arrives without an updated CAD model available. This is where Metrolog V25 makes a difference.

How Metrolog V25 enhances work on the Coord3

CAD-free programming. A significant portion of the parts we receive do not have a reliable CAD available at the time of inspection. Metrolog V25's new CAD-free programming allows nominal values to be defined directly by probing, right on the Coord3 CMM itself, with a dedicated safety mode to ensure collision-free paths. This eliminates the preliminary modelling step and significantly reduces back-and-forth between the machine and the workstation.

Copilot Inside. The integrated AI assistant in Metrolog allows the team to clarify doubts about parameters and functionalities without interrupting the ongoing inspection or relying on external support, maintaining the pace of work in the lab.

Digital Twin even more faithful to physical reality. Real-time synchronisation between the virtual model and the physical part, measured on the Coord3 CMM, strengthens confidence in building and validating inspection programmes, especially for larger and more complex parts.

"We no longer waste time between the machine and the computer. The programme is built next to the part, directly on the Coord3, and that completely changes the lab's rhythm." — Mariana Ramos

Observed results at S4METRO Leiria

AreaImpact of Metrolog V25 on the Coord3 CMM
Programme preparationReduction in programming time for parts without CAD available
Part diversitySame workflow for precision components and large structures
Team autonomyLess reliance on external support for day-to-day technical queries
